PFLAG Publication – Be Not Afraid: Help is on the Way! Straight for Equality in Faith Communities
This publication aims to move the way we understand our religious beliefs and our relationships with LGBTQ people – and support for equality – away from the either/or, “love the sinner, hate the sin” framework and to a place where people can try to understand that you can be a person of faith, loyal to your religion’s teachings, and someone who supports their LGBTQ friends and family.

Institute for Judaism and Sexual Orientation
The Institute for Judaism, Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) is the first and only institute of its kind in the Jewish world. The Institute was founded in 2000 to educate HUC-JIR students on LGBT issues to help them challenge and eliminate homophobia and heterosexism; and to learn tools to be able to transform the communities they encounter into ones that are inclusive and welcoming of LGBT Jews.

The American South’s resource for Jewish & LGBTQ+ programming, education, support, and advocacy. Their mission is to advance LGBTQ+ affirmation and empowerment across the South.

An academy of Jewish text study dedicated to the study of the Talmud. It is open to all those who wish to participate including individuals from other religious backgrounds. It explicitly recognizes the insight and contribution that LGBT Jews and their allies can offer to the evolving Jewish tradition.

World Congress of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Jews: Keshet Ga’avah
More than 25 member organizations worldwide that work to ensure that LGBT Jews can live free and fulfilling lives. Formed in 1975, Keshet Ga’avah has held conferences all over the world to meet the needs of their members locally, nationally, and internationally.


Based in the UK, Imaan strives to provide support for LGBT Muslims, their families, and their allies. Imaan promotes the Islamic values of peace, social justice, and tolerance by providing a safe space and support network meant to address issues of sexual orientation and gender identity within Islam.

Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity
The Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity (MASGD) works to support, empower and connect LGBTQ Muslims. We seek to challenge root causes of oppression, including misogyny and xenophobia. We aim to increase the acceptance of gender and sexual diversity within Muslim communities, and to promote a progressive understanding of Islam that is centered on inclusion, justice, and equality. MASGD hosts a retreat for LGBTQ Muslims and their partners each year.

Queer Muslim Revolution
Founded in 2007, this blog that collects progressive news, information, and resources for LGBT Muslims as well as their families and friends. They also have great information about books, movies, and documentaries that deal with the topic of sexual orientation and gender identity within Islam.

Queer Muslims
Queer Muslims is a blog meant to provide space for LGBT Muslims to express themselves, share information and resources, and connect with one another. They explicitly ban name calling, debate about Islamic texts, or negative comments.

Unitarian Universalist

An organization working for LGBTQ Unitarian Universalists and their allies, families and friends.

Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregations
While all UU churches are open and affirming of the LGBTQ community, many churches go the extra step of becoming officially designated as Welcoming Congregations. In this process, the members vote to do the work necessary to attain the designation, and then undertake a rigorous process of education and self-evaluation, ensuring things like church documents and facilities use appropriate language and signage, and more.

The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry
The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry (CLGS) provides programming and research support to serve faith communities, the LGBTQ community and their allies, and religious scholars alike. Their recently developed the Racial/Ethnic Roundtable Project is dedicated to working within African American, Asian and Pacific Islander, and Latino communities.

The Interfaith Alliance
The only national interfaith organization dedicated to protecting the integrity of both religion and democracy in America. Their membership is made up of individuals rather than institutions, in all 50 states and serving overseas in the U.S. military, and adhering to more than 75 faith traditions and belief systems.
